Everquest 2 - 2010

So this weekend I was bored.  My wow account is frozen, Aion is a no go, so I saw an ad for Eq2 and thought why not?  Thought I was going to have to download 20+gigs but was surprised to find out they have a nice streaming client.  Was signed up for trial, and in game within 10 minutes. 

They've made LOADS of changes since when we all last played.  I started a character in Greater Feydark.  Was so fun to see the usual sites, Keletin, Orc Pawns, Crushbone, Butherblock.  This game is very pretty and now it's also very polished.  There's lots of classes and races to choose from.  Also, a pretty good population on Everfrost, the server we all played on.  I think there's 90 levels so there's plenty to do.  I'm currently just enjoying the questing, the lore, and the scenery.  Can't wait to hit the old haunts, Unrest, Mistmoore, Guk, all that jazz.

Anyway, if you're bored with your current game, or don't have one, try out Eq2 for a couple weeks.  It's a great game.

I renabled my accounts the other day.  My son had been bugging me for a few weeks.  I told him, as soon as he got 14$ he could do it.  I have a few toons in the upper 60's, but anytime you want to run some dungeons for a bit   I am game.

I broke down and got him the trial for him via refer a friend.

300% exp when we group together, plus 10% bonus when I mentor a char to him!.  He got a cloak with nice run speed for all characters on his account.  Anytime I group with him, I can teleport to him, or he can teleport to me!

When I paid for his trial, my other account got a free month!

I have been busy levleing the Transcendents guild on Everfrost via Writs   Few more levels as we get a guild hall!  Which you can teleport to anytime and also buy portals to places.

Tried to convince Shog to come play hehe, but he is old and set in his ways!  Pluss his wife is just now getting addicted to AION.  Hard to convince an old doggie to change his ways as often as the young whipper snappers hehe.

The dynamic download thing is awesome!

I actually stopped playing EQ2 last fall to play AION, so i have been itching to get back and the new expansion just hit, so trying to catch up and finally hit max level in that game hehe.

Some things I like about EQ2.

So many places to go you just cant do it all as you level.
Mentoring system allows you to play with any friend, anytime, and make progress while helping him catch up.
No more... oh man, I level 4 levels past you, so really we just cant group.
Dungeons for grouping?  Oh my! EQ2 shared dungeons as you level also drop masters... and nice loot.
Solo content?  No groups available, make excellent progress on your character doing quest lines galore.  Or... grind if you prefer
As my son said "I want to play something other than a human dad".
Graphic upgrades on the game have come a LONG ways.  New zones are progressively nicer as the assets are built for todays engine upgrades.(shader 3.0 coming)

I spend most of my time solo in EQ2 these days, but some of my best times are/were grouping in the shared dungeons of EQ2.

If you download the trial.  Make sure you grab one of the nice ui upgrades and EQ2 maps from http://eq2.zam.com/ click on the eq2 interface link.
  If want the trial I can ship you a trial so you get the nifty cloak and 300% exp when you group with me!  Pluss who doesnt want to teleport to Rowah.. at will! Only thing about the trial, is you cant Trade, and there may be some channels you cant use.  But when you pay, I get a free month, whats not to love about that! hehe

Somethings I dont like?  Dont shoot me, still love the game
Bit overwhelming to come back to an exisiting char.
Knowing that the quest lines are now in place to level you solo content wise from 1-90?  hard to know
Loot drops off "chests", so you dont have any nifty loot lists like wow.  I love browseing what a mob can drop.
Without EQ2maps, finding things/quest locations can be tricky.
Learning the "bells" and how to get around in the game takes some time.
Sticking to a mob but not automoving to a mob takesa bit of getting used to again, but combat is very flashy.

I went in and found my level 24 guardian had a couple neat things on him that I gave to my new character to sell.  Made enough money to equip all "decent" armor at 20.  I'd love to run Crushbone with you guys.  Haven't been able to do that yet and I think I'm the perfect level for it. 

I just want to do all the nostalgic stuff.  Unrest, Crushbone, Mistmoore, Guk, Chess board in butcherblock, Cazic Thule.  Stuff where I can say, "Hey, this is where Kurdun fell down that hole."  Or "hey, these spires are where the Trans had their first guild meeting." 

The storyline is fun, and makes questing quite entertaining.  Like Rowah mentioned they have "The Golden Road" or whatever so you can quest all the way to 90.  That's what I'm all about.

I have a few 50-60s on a server, but I dont recall which one. I played last summer some, have an 80 cook, but that was the only thing I got close to the level cap at the time. I know I have a 50 Bruiser on Nagafen, but last time I went back I created somewhere else. Hexx and I were talking about it today, so you may see us pop in.  

So I went back and looked, and I can't find a way to see what server my characters were on without activating it. I am sure there is a way somewhere. (I'm just looking for excuses to do anything but finish this dumb research paper! )

So I googled my old guild, found out I played on Mistmoore. I went back last year when they had the promotion to reactivate and get updated on all expansions for 1 month subscription fee.

I have no idea what expansions I have..  I'm guessing none.  I don't feel like paying the 50$ to purchase the new expansion, which comes with all the old ones as well.

This is all so unfair!  It should take a night just to run your characters to the new hunting zone!  And heaven help if you have any deaths/wipes and you don't have a high enough level resser nearby.

Nothing like wiping on that last boss at 1:00 am and then needing another hour and a half to recover the body.  Thank the lord those days are over.

Row and I had a good crushbone run.  Amazing how much exp/loot you can get in dungeons.  Even he was getting great exp at 40 levels above me.  Also, the voice program in Eq is slick as well.

My usual char I been playing of late is Roweg, a Arasi Guardian.  He usually has his buddy Rowew and Rowaw tagging along helping him kill stuff.
