A re-introduction...
« on: July 09, 2008, 02:47:18 pm »

Hi all!

I thought it was about time for me to re-introduce myself, since I seem to be playing WoW regularly again, and you may be wondering about the very quiet hunter on the guild list who is still an Initiate after, uh, two years? Something like that? Smiley

I'm Ardynn, currently a 59 DE hunter, BM spec, newly stationed in Hellfire Peninsula. When I started playing WoW, this character's name was Arafel, since I thought my main would be a druid just like my longtime EQ toon (the original Ardynn). I quickly discovered that druid life was not for me, and played Arafel as my main until level 44, when real life interfered and I took a very extended break from the game. (Real life: my two girls, ages 5 and 2.) When I finally came back to the game this year, I saw that Blizzard had kindly created a way for me to pay $15 to get my REAL name back. Thanks Blizzard! Identity crisis resolved!

About me: I've played online games since the early months of EQ, back in the days when I had no kids and could stay up and raid until 2 in the morning. In those first EQ months I met Martin (Grimli), who turned out to share one half of my brain, and we roleplayed as siblings in EQ for years (back when people roleplayed in EQ, so truly, a century ago). Now I don't have much time for gaming, but WoW is a favorite indulgence of mine during my kid-free hours, and I'm grateful that the game designers actually made it possible for me to enjoy the game as a casual player.

Since I don't have many hours to play, and often have to leave the game at a moment's notice (translation: when my younger daughter wakes up from a nap), I have primarily soloed to 59 and have almost no group experience. As I finally make it to the higher levels, I'm hoping to rectify this, and I'm interested in learning about other classes and about raiding, since I've remained entirely clueless thus far. Even though I'll never have a lot of time to group and raid, I'd love to participate as my limited schedule allows.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to getting to know more of you as I get closer to 70. (Of course, as soon as I finally hit 70, they'll release the expansion and I'll be lagging behind again... Wink )

Thanks for having me. Smiley

Hi again Ardynn!

I second the sentiment that you might find comments like "AFK, son woke up" or "I need to tuck the kids in" or "its story time" pretty commonplace Smiley  Being a parent doesn't mean you can't play WoW...just a lot less than you'd like  Roll Eyes

Happy to see you back - don't be shy about chatting in /gu!

Thanks!

I'm glad I'm not the only parent who plays... my 5-year-old actually loves to watch over my shoulder. "What are you killing, Mommy?" "Well you know it's really not nice to kill things in real life, and it's just a pretend game, but that's an orc over there..." "SEND YOUR PET, MOMMY!"

Being a parent myself, I can tell you first hand this is a guild that understands. I'm still lookin forward to the day that my daughter watches over my shoulder Smiley

Woo hoo!

Ali is my best friend, is the nicest person in the universe, and basically been the other half of my brain since I met her. You seriously couldn't wish for a nicer, cooler person to have around.

Some of the funnest times I've ever had in a game have been spent just goofing off with Ali/Ardynn, and I'm jazzed that you'll all have the chance to do the same.

Ardynn, you certainly have a first class and very patient teacher in Grim!!!  You are very lucky there!  Hehe.

And, like they said, we definitely ARE pretty family friendly.   Almost our whole family is in the game.  I got such a kick out of your "SEND YOUR PET, MOMMY!"  Hehehe!  It really gives you something to talk about doesn't it?   Grin Wink

So, if you need anything or would like to group in game, just give Taniko or Jebu a holler and we'd love to "putz" around anytime.   (Child "breaks" not only expected, but "cute stories" encouraged!  Hehe!  Two grandkids here and two more on the way!  Woot!)

Welcome back,
Tani (Taniko/Tanima)

Ardynn, hope I'll be able to catch you in-game sometime Wink.  I've become a busy parent, so WoW has also been my favorite indulgence.  When I do play, my little one likes to watch my Netherdrake when it's flying and he likes to watch me fish. Grin

Thanks for all the welcomes. Smiley ... I forgot to mention that I'm Pacific time (Bay Area) so hopefully I'll overlap with some of you!

Tani, it is SO COOL that almost your whole family plays! I love hearing about all these WoW + kids experiences. Cheesy

Welcome back!  You will also find lots of overlap with people in the bay area Smiley.  (not me however).  I must admit I have been waiting patiently for the other half of Grimli's brain to return.  He has been so much slower the last while...
